The age-old question when a
QB is getting sacked too much is ďis it the offensive line, or is it
the fact that the QB holds on to the ball too long and moves like a
statue?Ē Well that question is being tossed around in Buffalo as of
late, and Drew Bledsoe is taking all of the blame. But at the end of
the day, Drew has done exactly what he was brought in to do, put butts
in seats. The fact that he is struggling now has a lot to do with the
fact that this team is not the type of team that Drew can do well on.
Donít get me
wrong, Iím glad that the Patriots found Tom Brady; I really donít
think we were ever going to win a super bowl with Drew. But the
Patriots had success with Drew when they had good offensive lines, and
good receivers, in particular a good tight end. And Drew filled that
stadium every game he played, and with Parcells, saved the Patriots
from being moved out of New England and helped pay for a new stadium.
What more could you ask from a class act off the field? We then moved
on and were able to put a team around Tom Brady to win two super
bowls. Drew could have been that same stepping stone for the Bills to
get to the next level. But they didnít do the right things to make
What the Bills did was get rid of a good tight end after Drew
had a good first year with the Bills and at the same time they got rid
of a very good receiver in Price. They also focused all of there
energy on the defense, and didnít even try to put together an
offensive line that can block for a statue QB. At the same time, they
went out and hired coaches who had no backbone to put Drew in his
place when he checked off at the line to call a bomb that turned into
an INT. Those coaches also couldnít put together game plans that
could win against high school teams.
There have been a lot of people bashing Bledsoe, even to the
point where people are getting personal. As a Patriots fan, I would
like to take this opportunity to say, ďwe told you soĒ as I was
harassed by Buffalo fans when the Patriots traded Bledsoe to Buffalo.
But I would also like to take this opportunity to say that itís not
all Drew. Maybe the days of the statue QB are gone, but you can do a
better job of taking advantage of his skill set as a team. The Bills
have failed at this, and that is not Drewís fault. Also, Drew has
accounted for many more sellouts and lifted blackouts than would have
been had they not gotten Drew. All this team had to do was keep the
good receivers they had, and put a big offensive line around Drew.
They already had a good running back in Henry, so why draft another RB?
This team would have kept selling out the stadium and they would have
remained competitive, allowing for that same smooth transition to the
Hey Bills fans, stop blaming Drew for being
Drew, blame your team for being stupid, and give a guy who is a class
act off the field a break.
...Thatís just My
